After visiting Go Outdoors on Saturday I decided to get my boots from Taunton Leisure. They have really good service there and also had the boots I wanted at a cheaper price.

The Scarpa boots I wanted turned out to be too narrow for my wide feet so I tried on a pair of Meindl boots and, wow! They were so comfortable and light, perfect, apart from the cost, no way could I afford well over two hundred quid for a pair of boots.

I ended up with a pair of leather Keen boots which are designed for the wider foot. They were not as light but almost as comfy as the Meindl boots and, half the price!

Whilst there I tried on various Rucksacks and ended up buying a twenty two litre Lowe Alpine one which has a cage to keep the sack off my sweaty back and felt really comfortable on.

I feel I am now in a position to start my walks and I have realised that I have seven days holiday to use up between now and the end of March. Perfect, I can take one day a week and get cracking.
